USPA NEWS - The Paris Opera appears by far to be the most affected. The staff of the institution are directly affected by the pension reform, since a special regime allows musicians to access it at 60, choir artists as well as certain technicians, at 57, and dancers, at 42 years old. This explains the intense mobilization in all categories of personnel. If the strikes of the technicians of the Paris Opera are nothing exceptional, those of the dancers remain, on the other hand, extremely rare. However, it is to defend their pension plan that they took to the streets.

A NET LOSS OF M€ 12,3---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This tension resulted in a phenomenal number of canceled performances, day after day like a game of dominoes. A total of 63 shows were scheduled in the three halls (Bastille, the amphitheater and the Opéra Garnier). Unheard of for thirty years. The net ticket loss amounted, since December 5, to 12.3 million euros. Which will jeopardize investments for future seasons. Financial repercussions are inevitably expected in this 350-year-old house, whose budget amounted to 216.8 million euros in 2018 (including 95.2 million in state subsidies). To balance the Paris Opera pension fund, the state also provides it with 14 million euros each year. Source : Le Monde Journal
